CSL Grant Recipients 2011
The Children’s Support League of the East Bay (CSL) provides grants to nonprofit agencies serving children in need in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. In 2011, CSL gave $186,000 to 25 agencies for the programs described below.
Child Advocacy – Violence
CALICO Center: A supportive interview environment for child victims of sexual abuse.
Community Violence Solutions: Intervention treatment and support for children impacted by domestic violence, assault, or abuse.
Family Paths: Treatment, intervention and prevention services to victims of abuse, violence, and neglect.
* Jewish Family & Children's Services of the East Bay: Case management and therapy for underserved, low income children and families exposed to violence.
STAND! Against Domestic Violence: Therapeutic care to children who have been exposed to domestic violence.
Youth ALIVE!: Recruitment and training of teens for peer violence prevention program in East Oakland.
Classes – Special Needs
Ala Costa Center: Empowers children with developmental disabilities to find, use, and express their unique strengths and talents.
Children’s Programs at Shelters
Building Futures with Women and Children: Meets basic needs and provides therapeutic activities to children at three domestic violence shelters and one subsidized housing facility.
Emergency Shelter Program: Provides counseling, support, and school facilitation to children residents.
* Greater Richmond Interfaith Program: Operates emergency shelter and transitional housing; children’s program provides educational support
Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS): Assesses the wellbeing of children living in its shelters and delivers therapeutic activities to address each child’s needs.
Oakland Elizabeth House: Provides transitional program for women and children who have experienced homelessness, violence, addiction or poverty.
Shelter, Inc.: Improves the reading and math competencies of students and enhances early childhood development for shelter residents that are 0 - 5 years of age.
Educational Support/Skill Development
*Aim High for High School: Provides after school summer support to prepare children ages 6 -14 for continuing education.
*Contra Costa Youth Council: Offers tutoring for incarcerated boys ages 13 to 18.
Faith Network of the East Bay: Improves the reading skills of 1st and 2nd graders through one-one tutoring during school hours, library support, and home literacy.
*Superstars Literacy: Provides educational support for kindergarten through 2nd graders with significant reading delays.
Mentoring
Family Support Services of the Bay Area: Mentors children 4-18 years of age who have a parent who is incarcerated.
Newborn Services
Child Abuse Prevention of Contra Costa:Teaches parenting skills to low-income, Spanish-speaking new mothers.
*Loved Twice: Provides clothing and supplies for newborns.
Shelter Services
Bay Area Crisis Nursery: Supports young children and families who are under stress or in crisis.
Women's Daytime Drop-in Center: Improves the stability of families through housing assistance and supportive activities for the children.
Therapy/Counseling
East Bay Agency for Children: Improves functioning for families coping with an illness or death.
Link to Children: Provides child abuse prevention services for children 0-5 years of age and facilitates access to mental health services that support children and caregivers.
*UJIMA: Provides counseling for youths (mostly foster kids) from families with substance abuse history
